DRAGONSLAYER, the third full band album by Sunset Rubdown (second for Jagjaguwar), will be released on June 23rd in North America.

Sunset Rubdown was once the moniker under which Spencer Krug released low fidelity solo recordings, but the project has since evolved into a full band. The music for DRAGONSLAYER was written in 2007 and 2008 and recorded in the fall of 2008. Sunset Rubdown hopes that this album that sounds at first to be an only slightly skewed approach to pop is like that friend of yours who looks unassuming and normal, but once you get to know him, it’s obvious he’s basically crazy.

The three original musicians with which Spencer Krug chose to expand his solo project into a full-fledged band are: Jordan Robson-Cramer on drums, guitar and keys, Michael Doerksen on guitar, bass and cosmic radio and Camilla Wynne Ingr on keys and percussion and vocals. DRAGONSLAYER also features, for the first time, new member, bassist and sometimes-drummer, Mark Nicol.

Tracklisting:
1. Silver Moons
2. Idiot Heart
3. Apollo and the Buffalo and Anna Anna Anna Oh!
4. Black Swan
5. Paper Lace
6. You Go On Ahead (Trumpet Trumpet II)
7. Nightingale / December Song
8. Dragon’s Lair

Sunset Rubdown will also release what is arguably the cutest looking picture disc of 2009: a 7″ (available first week of April) on Aagoo Records, Sunset Rubdown Introducing Moonface, featuring the songs “Coming to the Dawn” and “Insane Love is Awakening”.

The band is heading to Europe for a string of dates, here is the full list:

04-18 La Maronquinerie Paris, France
04-20 Patronaat Haarlem, Netherlands
04-21 Franzis Wetzlar, Germany
04-22 Club Manufaktur Schorndorf, Germany
04-23 Club 007 Strahov Prague, Czech Republic
04-24 Donau Festival Krems, Austria
04-25 Avant Fest Moscow, Russia
04-27 Teatar & TD Zagreb, Croatia
04-29 Manggha Krakow, Poland
04-30 Hydrozagadka Warsaw, Poland
05-02 Pop Revo Festival Aarhus, Denmark

In case you haven’t been paying attention, Handsome Furs have a new record coming out. In our last post we told you about all the different deals you can get when pre-order Face Control. I failed to mention that Insound.com is also offering the same live CDR as
Sub Pop. Thanks to Greg at Three Colors for the info!
Here are the details:

Handsome Furs Live at Neumos EP (4/19/08) Seattle, WA

1. “All We Want, Baby, Is Everything”
2. “Officer of Hearts”
3. “Legal Tender”
4. “Radio Kaliningrad”

Handsome Furs went to Bologna, Italy last month. While there they did an interview with Maps at Radio Metropolitana. Listen to the interview here.

In somewhat related Wolf Parade news, Dan spoke to NYC local paper Chelsea Now:

In the two years that the band has been in existence, Handsome Furs has been very productive. They’ve put out an album a year, and they’ve already got six songs for the next album. There’s also Boeckner’s other band, Wolf Parade, to consider. He and the boys will get together in October to work on their third album.

Sounds good to me! Thanks to Username880 for the heads up.

There are so many options to choose from when thinking about pre-ordering the new Handsome Furs record. First there is the t-shirt pre-order bundle from the official Handsome Furs online store. Then there is another t-shirt pre-order bundle from Insound.com. The latest one we learned about is from the folks at Subpop.com. Here’s the details to their pre-order deal:

Tuesday, March 10th marks our second release of 2009. This brings you yet another opportunity to own bonus material through an altogether unsubtle sales trick we call “the pre-order incentive”. When (and less likely if) you pre-order Handsome Furs’ second album, FACE CONTROL, on CD or LP (as usual, the vinyl comes with a digital download code), you will receive a limited CDR featuring four album tracks performed live at an April, 2008 show in Seattle. And because we’re so sweet on you (and your money), we’re going to throw in a couple stickers and a button as well. Can’t wait until March 10th to hear FACE CONTROL? With your pre-order, you’ll have access to a full album stream! How’s that for a bullet-proof sales pitch?
