I'm going to both shows, one to celebrate Columbus Day and one to celebrate a friend's birthday.
Anyone else showing up? |

Well, the last time I saw SR was the show where he and Camilla both had food poisoning, so it can only get better.
I'll probably be coming straight from work to the show, but I'll see you there. |

tam! it was so great to meet you!
the show tonight in brooklyn at the music hall of williamsburg was bizare...super quite audience and tons of banter between camilla and spencer...
the set was exactly the same as last night, only tonight they did do stallion....
i took notes this time kids so there is lotts of news! myself, hyden, and tam all got to speak to spencer who gave us some info on a few things...
the first being that the posters that came out with the cds are not exactly created by spencer...jagjag had asked him to submit some drawings...so he sent them some sketches...and THEY put those sketches together to create the posters...he even said he didn't like them and that he doesn't consider them his art...they are just a bunch of his drawings/doodles that were thrown together...
the next bit of news is that the new song is tenitively called iccarus...he said the last thing he does is give the songs their titles...so this is the title for now...
i didn't get a chance to ask him much else...i will post more tomorrow... |

It was great to meed you and Hyden, too!
The audience was quiet, but it may have been due to the hugeness of the space. To anyone who hasn't been to the Music Hall yet, it's basically (what's been nicknamed) the 'Bizarro Bowery' or 'McBowery', with the layout almost identical except the ceilings in the concert area are probably 5 - 10 ft. taller. Also, the security there is like Bowery+ with the security telling us to leave the stage area right after the show ended.
The banter between them was pretty amusing. I think the best part was when Camilla, Mike, and Marc left the stage and Spencer and Jordan stayed on to play the 'encore'. Spencer was pretty talkative, so it'll be interesting to see how he is at Bowery tonight. There were some awesome shouts from the audience, possibly all from the same guy, like the "ENCORE" out of nowhere before Stadiums (I think), and something along the lines of "I love your piano-driven melodies!"
It was pretty crazy to find out that the posters, while being drawings of Spencer's, are not an entire work by him. A bit of shenanigans by those record label folk, if you ask me.
I got a coffee filter setlist, after being asked by 3 bouncers to leave. With notes I made:
Waterfall - Us Ones in Between
Shores - SUID
Funky - Taming of the Hands
Pier
March - Up on Your Leopard
New - New song
Waltz - Stallion
Sexy (I think) - Trumpet Trumpet Toot Toot
Winged
Stadiums
Lord
3 Colors
They actually ended up playing 3 Colors before Lord.
There will be pictures later. |

Haha, I think that's one of my favorite audience shouts ever.
I'm kind of sad the sets have still been pretty short. I thought for this tour they'd add in a few more songs. (Mending!!! Courtesan!!! Come on!!!) |

Yeah. I'm really hoping they work Mending into the mix by the time they make it out to the west coast.
So Tam, Maria & Hayden, what trickery did you employ to talk with Spence if the security was all being dicks to you, asking you to leave? _________________ If you could make another one of you,

the stage banter stuff was hysterical...it started early in the set with spencer saying some snarky comment to camilla and she responding with 'why have you been so mean to me on stage recently, i really like you'...the crowd was so so quite all night long between songs...so when someone shouted the 'piano driven melodies' comment other people shouted stuff and then spencer said 'ok this song is going to be very quite, so be quite you fuckers' and they went into stadiums...
the best was later like tam said when camilla and co left the stage thinking it was the closing song...and jordan and spencer were left...before that last song they discussed the setlist also and it sounded like everyone was clear they were doing 2 more then doing an encore...but i guess not...and when camilla came back to the stage she threw the setlist she had in the air and said something along the lines of how most setlists are set up with the line meaning the songs below it were in the encore...she seemed frustrated a little, and i forget what spencer said back to her..but he interupted her prompting her to say 'you never let me talk, fuck'...it didn't feel like they were really fighting though...someone from the audience yelled out 'how about that canadian dollar' and everyone laughed to which spencer i think said 'but we get paid in american money'...it was a really bizarre interaction...but you could see the difference in spencer, he is more comfortable on stage with sr than wolf parade, in my opinion...
anyway the show was really great...but the awkward silence of the crowd between songs was painful...i thought boston at least had a more energetic crowd that was singing along and dancing...
hope tonight is good at the bowery...spencer admitted that manhattan crowds intimidate him..
oh and the only reason we got to talk to spencer was because we waited around at the merch table and when he came out on stage to pack up his stuff we walked over to him...i think secuirty was not around at that point...

This is a terribly silly fanboy question, and I almost loath myself for asking it, but does anyone ever wonder if Spencer or Camilla are dating? I kind of think they might be sometimes. Usually I don't though.
Not that it's any of our business, really. _________________ If you could make another one of you,

I kind of remember it being more Camilla said something snarky and then saying she'd been mean to him all week and didn't know why, followed by the, "I really like you." I didn't really take it to mean the middle school 'oo, she LIKE likes him' but the everyday 'we're amigos' but regardless, as I think we all agree, it is none of our business.
The last SR show I saw was the one at Mercury Lounge (the infamous food poisoning show of '06), and there was a little chit chat then, but this time there was definitely more talk and joking around (in a good way).
BTW, this was my first time hearing Johnny and the Moon and Magic Weapon, and they were pretty darn amazing. Since I don't know any song titles, I'm not sure what they played. |

Yeah, sorry to even bring that up. It's very middle school. And yes, not at all to do with us. I guess I just think they're both so awesome and cute, that it would be fun if they were in love. Like a Fleetwood Mac kind of thing. But I suppose that never really bodes well for the longevity of a band anyway - except for hopefully in the case of Handsome Furs, which I think is different.
In general I think it's just great that all the members of Sunset Rubdown seem to be so close and supportive of one another. That's a rarer occurrence in the world of music than I think many of us realize. So for that, I count those of us who adore SR lucky. _________________ If you could make another one of you,
